The drug valerian forte reduces the excitability of the central nervous system. the effect is due to the content of essential oil, most of which is the ester of borneol alcohol and isovalerianic acid. valepotriates and alkaloids valerin and hotinin also exhibit sedative properties. sedative effect is slow, but quite stable. valerianic acid and valepotriates have a weak antispasmodic effect. the drug practically does not cause a feeling of fatigue, does not affect mental and physical ability to work.

Indications

Increased nervous irritability, insomnia; as part of combination therapy for mild functional disorders of the cardiovascular system.

Application

Inside, adults and children over the age of 12 years, 1-2 tablets 3 times a day. The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually. tablets should be taken without chewing, washed down with liquid.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to valerian and / or other components of the drug; depression or other conditions accompanied by inhibition of the central nervous system.

Side effects

The drug is usually well tolerated, but sometimes drowsiness, a feeling of depression, decreased ability to work, dizziness, headache, nausea, which occur when the dose is reduced or (if they are severe) can be withdrawn, are possible.

With individual hypersensitivity to the drug, local allergic reactions (rashes, itching, swelling and hyperemia of the skin) may develop.

During the use of the drug, it is necessary to refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages.

The drug contains lactose, so it should not be used in patients with rare hereditary forms of galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome.

The drug contains glucose, which must be considered for patients with diabetes mellitus.

Patients with severe impaired function or severe liver disease in history should be careful when taking the drug.

May indicate a specific sensitivity to the smell of valerian.

Use during pregnancy and lactation. It is not recommended to use the drug due to the lack of data on the safety of use during pregnancy and lactation.

Children. Given the limited clinical experience, the use of valerian in children under 12 years of age is not recommended.

Interactions

Valerian enhances the effect of alcohol, sleeping pills, sedatives, anxiolytic and antispasmodic drugs.

Overdose

Symptoms: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, lethargy, general weakness, abdominal pain, nausea, trembling of the hands, dilated pupils, decreased hearing and visual acuity, a feeling of compression in the chest are possible.

Treatment: stop using the drug, rinse the stomach, take activated charcoal. If necessary, carry out symptomatic therapy.
