Tocopherol

Soft capsules Vitamin E 400-Sanofi is used as part of complex therapy to prevent violations of the embryonic development of the fetus, autonomic disorders or as an adjuvant in the hormonal treatment of menstrual irregularities.

Structure

Active substance: tocopherol acetate;

1 capsule contains 400 mg of tocopherol acetate;

Excipients: vegetable oil, gelatin, glycerin (85%), methylparaben (E 218), Ponso 4R (E 124).

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the active substance and to any components of the drug.
• Cardiosclerosis
• Acute period of myocardial infarction.
• Thyrotoxicosis.
• Hypervitaminosis E.
• Age to 12 years.

Mode of application

The drug is intended for oral use.

The capsule should be swallowed without chewing, drinking plenty of fluids.

The dosage is individual and depends on the nature of the disease.

Overdose

When taking high doses of vitamin E (400-800 mg per day for a long time), visual disturbances, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausea or abdominal cramps, very severe fatigue or weakness are possible.

Very high doses (over 800 mg for a long time) can cause bleeding in patients with vitamin K deficiency; they can disrupt the metabolism of thyroid hormones and increase the risk of thrombophlebitis and thromboembolism in sensitive patients, an increase in CPK activity, an increase in the concentration of cholesterol, triglycerides in the blood serum, an increase in the content of estrogen and androgens in the urine.

Overdose treatment consists of symptomatic therapy.

Side effects

• From the hematopoietic system: hypothrombinemia.
• From the nervous system: visual disturbances, dizziness, headache.
• From the gastrointestinal tract: digestive disorders, nausea, the development of gastrointestinal bleeding, diarrhea, stomach pain.

Interaction

• Iron increases the daily requirement for vitamin E. Vitamin E in doses exceeding 400 IU per day can enhance the effect of anticoagulants.
• Vitamin E increases the risk of thrombosis in patients taking estrogen.
• Vitamin E can not be used together with iron, silver preparations, drugs with an alkaline environment (sodium bicarbonate, trisamine), indirect anticoagulants (dicumarin, neodicumarin).
• Vitamin E enhances the action of steroidal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (sodium diclofenac, ibuprofen, prednisone) reduces the toxic effect of cardiac glycosides (digitoxin, digoxin), vitamins A and D.
• Vitamin E and its metabolites have an antagonistic effect against vitamin K.
• Vitamin E increases the effectiveness of antiepileptic drugs in patients with epilepsy.
• Cholestyramine, colestipol, mineral oils reduce the absorption of vitamin E.
• When taking high doses of vitamin E, vitamin A stores in the body decrease.
