Pharmacological properties

The systemic effect of pentosan sodium polysulfate on hemostasis occurs in 3 stages. firstly, the drug inhibits platelet aggregation induced by collagen or adenosine diphosphate.

Secondly, it affects blood coagulability, mainly due to antithrombin III-independent inhibition of blood coagulation factor Xa, interacts with factor VIIIa and inhibits the activation of factor V. Unlike heparin, the drug has little effect on thrombin activity.

Thirdly, pentosan polysulfate sodium salt acts on fibrinolysis: it releases t-PA from the endothelium, activates factor XII and modifies fibrin production. These effects stimulate the release of thrombin.

In addition, the drug has a systemic effect on fat metabolism, releasing lipoprotein lipase from endothelial cells and liver, and reduces the level of total cholesterol, total fat and TG in the blood.

The mechanism of action of heparinoid, pentosan sodium polysulfate is comparable to that of substances like heparin and heparinoids.

Pentosan polysulfate sodium salt as a result of local action enhances capillary circulation in the affected tissues due to its fibrinolytic and anticoagulant activity. Thrombocide has an anti-inflammatory effect, suppresses hyaluronidase, reduces the increased vascular permeability in the affected tissues and reduces edema. Essential oils have an additional antispasmodic effect and relieve pain in the affected area.

Indications

Local symptomatic treatment of superficial phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, varicose veins, which are manifested by edema, pain, a feeling of heaviness in the legs, cramps, trophic ulcers of the leg. sports and domestic injuries (dislocations, bruises, sprains, bruises). tenosynovitis.

Application

Apply the gel in a thin layer to the affected areas and adjacent areas, rubbing lightly, 3 times a day.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to pentosan sodium polysulfate or to any other component of the drug.

Side effects

Sometimes hypersensitivity reactions, dry skin at the places of application of the drug may occur.

Like other low molecular weight heparins, pentosan polysulfate sodium salt with iv, subcutaneous or intramuscular administration can cause the development of heparin-associated thrombocytopenia, which is independent of the dose taken. Pentosan polysulfate sodium salt does not cross the placental barrier.

Animal studies have not provided evidence of embryotoxic or fetotoxic effects. Nevertheless, the drug can not be used during pregnancy.

It is not known whether pentosan polysulfate sodium salt is dissolved in breast milk, so the drug should not be used during lactation.

Interactions
