Pharmacological properties
Muscomed contains the active substance thiocolchicoside, a semi-synthetic muscle relaxant, which is obtained from the natural glycoside of colchicoside. exhibits selective affinity for gamma and glycine receptors, which determines the effect of the drug at various levels of the nervous system, both with local spasms and with spasms of central origin.
Muscomed does not have a curariform effect, does not cause paralysis and does not affect the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
Pharmacokinetics The absorption of thiocolchicoside after oral administration is fast. Cmax in blood plasma is reached after 60 minutes. According to available data, in healthy volunteers after taking 8 mg of the drug, the bioavailability was 24% compared with that for i / m use.
Binding to plasma proteins is 13%. Thiocolchioside binds to albumin.
T½ is 2.5–5 hours. About 20% of the dose is excreted in the urine as unchanged metabolites, 75–81% is excreted in the feces.
Indications
For additional short-term relief of painful muscle contractures.
Application
Take orally after a meal. the maximum daily dose is 8–16 mg in 2 divided doses. the recommended course of treatment is 5-7 days.
In preparation for physiotherapeutic procedures, the period of muscle relaxation is 1-2 hours after oral administration of the drug.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, muscle hypotension, mild paralysis.
Side effects
Rarely, skin rash, edema, allergic and pseudo-allergic reactions (allergic vasculitis), stomach pain, diarrhea. very rarely - hypotension, irritability and drowsiness.
special instructions
The drug should be used with caution in case of impaired renal or hepatic function. with caution, it is necessary to use the drug in patients with epilepsy or the risk of seizures.
If you are intolerant of certain sugars, you should consult your doctor before taking this drug, because the drug contains lactose monohydrate.
Use during pregnancy or lactation. The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
Children. The drug is contraindicated in children under the age of 16 years.
The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles or working with other mechanisms. During the treatment period, care must be taken when driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially unsafe activities that require an increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
Interactions
There is no data on drug interactions. however, caution is advised when taken with other muscle relaxants.
With simultaneous use with drugs that depress the central nervous system, including alcohol, antihypertensive drugs, curare-like drugs, increased muscle relaxation and central nervous system depression, the development of hypotension are possible.
With simultaneous use with anticoagulants, the risk of bleeding increases.
Overdose
There is no data on overdose.
Symptoms: possibly increased adverse reactions.
Treatment: symptomatic, supportive care.
Storage conditions
At a temperature not exceeding 25 ° c.
