Pharmacological properties

Taurine is found in particularly high concentrations in cells of excitable tissues and tissues exposed to oxidative stress (central nervous system and retina, as well as white blood cells, smooth muscle cells and cardiomyocytes).

Taurine plays an important role in many physiological processes: it is involved in cytoprotection and regulation of apoptosis; It exhibits antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, supporting cell homeostasis in conditions of acute and chronic inflammation / oxidative stress.

Taurine is a free radical scavenger and an effective inhibitor of the generation of reactive oxygen species; enhances the expression and activity of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase, prevents their damage; improves the condition and functions of mitochondria, restoring the activity of the respiratory chain and increasing the synthesis of ATP.

Taurine stabilizes cell membranes; participates in the regulation of cell volume and modulates the content of other osmolytes, including the intracellular concentration of free calcium; necessary in the processes of immunomodulation, as well as glucose metabolism; There is evidence of the effects of taurine as a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator.

Taurine modulates protein phosphorylation and signaling in cells, regulates the ubiquitin-proteasome system and autophagy processes. Reported taurine-mediated changes in the content of transcription factors.

Taurine is found in high amounts in the retina, vitreous humor, crystalline lens, cornea, iris and ciliary body. The highest concentration of taurine is noted in the photoreceptors of the retina. Indications

• Dystrophy of the cornea and retina (including tapetoretinal abiotrophy); open-angle glaucoma (as part of complex therapy); cataract (age-related, diabetic, traumatic, radiation etiology); traumatic lesion of the cornea (to stimulate the restoration of tissue integrity).

Application

Locally grown up. Before the instillation procedure, heat the tube to 37 ° c (holding it in the palm of your hand).

Cataract: 2-3 drops 2-3 times a day for 3 months. Repeat at intervals of 1 month.

Eye injury: 2-3 drops 2-3 times a day for 1 month.

Retinal dystrophy, penetrating injuries of the cornea: 0.3 ml of 4% solution is administered subconjunctively once a day for 10 days. The course is repeated after 6-8 months.

Open-angle glaucoma: 2-3 drops per conjunctival sac 2 times a day (20-30 minutes before the use of timolol eye drops). The duration of treatment is individual (determined by the doctor).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active pharmaceutical ingredient of the drug or its other components.

Side effects

• Hypersensitivity reactions; hyperemia of the connective tissue of the eye; discomfort in the eyes (burning, pain, itching).

special instructions

In the case of open-angle glaucoma therapy, taufon is used 20-30 minutes before the use of timolol eye drops.

If necessary, a combination of several drugs for topical application into the eyes, the interval between their administration should be 10-15 minutes (ointment - last).

There is no data on the use of Taufon during pregnancy and lactation, in childhood, as well as when driving vehicles and working with other mechanisms.

However, in the case of the development of transient blurred vision after the use of the drug, one should wait for the full restoration of visual functions before starting to drive a vehicle or work with other mechanisms.

Interactions

The combined use with timolol (eye drops) enhances the effect of reducing intraocular pressure and hell.
