Pharmacological properties

isoxuprin is a peripheral vasodilator, an agonist of β-adrenergic receptors. Due to the stimulating effect on β-adrenergic receptors, isoxuprine reduces the tone of the smooth muscles of blood vessels, eliminates their spasm, improves peripheral and cerebral blood circulation and, accordingly, blood supply to tissues. exhibits a positive inotropic and chronotropic cardiac effect, as well as tocolytic effect. in in vitro and in vivo studies, isoxuprin inhibited spontaneous and oxytocin-induced uterine activity during labor. isoxuprin has a minor bronchodilator effect. in high doses, inhibits platelet aggregation and reduces blood viscosity.

Pharmacokinetics Isoxuprin is rapidly absorbed in the digestive tract. Metabolized by partial conjugation in the liver. When taken orally C_max in plasma observed after 1 h. T_½ the drug is about 1.25 hours. It is excreted mainly with urine, in a small amount - with feces.

Indications

Atherosclerosis of the retinal arteries.

Application

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any other component of the drug; history of bleeding and hemorrhage; angina pectoris; arterial hypotension; use of the drug immediately after childbirth is contraindicated.

Side effects

From the cardiovascular system: tachycardia, increased heart rate, arterial hypotension, pain behind the sternum.

From the nervous system: dizziness.

From the gastrointestinal tract: dyspeptic disorders, nausea, vomiting.

From the immune system: in individuals with individual intolerance to any component of the drug, hypersensitivity reactions are possible.

special instructions

It is necessary to prescribe the drug with caution in the presence of tachycardia, hot flashes, blood clotting disorders, with glaucoma, in the acute phase of myocardial infarction and stroke.

During treatment with the drug, elderly patients should be careful to get out of bed, to avoid a sharp change in body position in order to prevent orthostatic hypotension.

The effect of the drug may be reduced in patients who smoke.

Do not drink alcoholic beverages during treatment with Suprilex.

Due to the risk of developing pulmonary edema in the mother and tachycardia in the fetus, Suprilex should not be used for premature birth and childbirth complicated by infection.

Use during pregnancy and lactation. Prescribing Suprilex to pregnant women is contraindicated. There is no data on the safety of isoxuprine during lactation, therefore, the use of the drug during lactation should be avoided.

Children. There is no data on the safe use of the drug in children, therefore the drug Suprilex should not be used in people under the age of 18 years.

Overdose

Treatment: symptomatic.
