Pharmacological properties.
The oil from the fruits and leaves of sea buckthorn contains tocopherols, carotenes and carotenoids (at least 180 mg% β-carotene), fatty acids (stearic, linoleic, oleic, palmitic), glyceride and chlorophyll compounds. Due to the presence of fat-soluble bioantioxidants in the composition, sea-buckthorn oil reduces the damaging effects of toxic substances, peroxides and other aggressive factors, protects cell membranes and intracellular structures, stimulates healing processes in case of damage to the skin and mucous membranes, inhibits the growth of bacteria, exhibits an enveloping and choleretic effect.
Indications.
Sea buckthorn oil is used externally in the treatment of burns, pressure sores, radiation injuries of the skin and mucous membranes, gynecological diseases (colpitis, endocervicitis, cervical erosion), proctological pathologies (erosive-ulcerative, atrophic lesions of the rectum, hemorrhoids, anus cracks).
Inside, the drug is taken as part of complex therapy for lesions of the esophagus and peptic ulcer (peptic ulcer) of the stomach and / or duodenum.
Inhalation Sea buckthorn oil is used in the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract (nasopharynx, vocal cords, trachea, bronchi).
Locally, the drug is used to treat tonsillitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis.
Contraindications
Acute inflammatory processes of the gallbladder, liver, pancreas; cholelithiasis. the drug is contraindicated for persons predisposed to allergic reactions (with individual intolerance to biologically active substances that are part of sea buckthorn oil).
Features of the application.
It is advisable to decide on the appointment of sea buckthorn oil for internal use in children under 12 years of age, pregnant women and mothers, taking into account the ratio of the expected treatment effectiveness and the potential danger of the drug.
Interaction with other drugs.
The pathological effect on the human body through the interaction of sea buckthorn oil with other drugs is not described.
Dosage and administration.
In pathological skin processes, the drug is used in the form of oil dressings, which are applied every other day (after cleansing the affected surface of the skin from necrotic tissues) until tissue regeneration sites appear.
In case of gynecological diseases, cotton swabs moistened with oil lubricate the walls of the vagina, the vaginal part and the cervical canal (after their preliminary treatment); with cervical erosion, cotton swabs, abundantly moistened with oil, are tightly pressed to the site of erosion (the procedure for replacing tampons is carried out every day). The course of treatment for colpitis is 10-15 procedures, endocervicitis and cervical erosion - 8-12 procedures.
With proctologic diseases, cotton swabs moistened with oil lubricate the anus and hemorrhoids; with lesions of the rectum, oil is injected into its lumen with the help of microclysters (after making a cleansing enema). The course of treatment is 10-12 procedures.
In case of lesions of the esophagus, peptic ulcer (peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum), adults and children aged 12 years and older use the drug orally 1 teaspoon 2-3 times a day. The average duration of treatment is 3-4 weeks.
With the pathology of ENT organs, cotton swabs moistened with sea buckthorn oil, lubricate the tonsils, pharynx; in chronic sinusitis, gauze turundas soaked in oil are injected into the external nasal passages (having previously freed them from mucus). The course of treatment is 8-10 procedures.
For diseases of the upper respiratory tract Sea buckthorn oil is used by inhalation.
The duration of the course of treatment is determined individually for each patient, taking into account the nature and severity of the pathological process, the characteristics of the course of the disease, the stability of the therapeutic effect and tolerability of the drug. If necessary, the course of treatment can be repeated after 4-6 weeks.
Overdose.
In case of an overdose, nausea, vomiting, headache, confusion, convulsions, diarrhea, skin rashes, desquamation of the epithelium may occur. Oligurea may develop. in some cases, shock conditions occur.
In this case, gastric lavage, the appointment of activated charcoal or another adsorbent, and appropriate symptomatic therapy are necessary.
Side effect.
Bitterness in the mouth, diarrhea (when taken orally), burning sensation (for external use), respiratory failure, bronchospasm, excessive salivation (with inhalation).
With individual hypersensitivity to the drug, the development of allergic reactions (hyperemia and swelling of the skin, rash, itching) is possible.
