Pharmacological properties

The drug prostamed contains globulin obtained from cucurbita pepo seeds.

15 amino acids have been identified in pumpkin globulin; glutamic acid, which inhibits 5α-reductase, is a priority. By the principle of 5α-reductase inhibitors, all other monophytopreparations are also used, which are used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia. A certain part of 5α-reductase remains active and converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, but pumpkin phytostyrene, which is part of the drug Prostamed, competitively displaces it and binds to the androgen-sensitive receptor, thereby preventing the formation of the androgen-receptor complex, which is a catalyst for the process of hyperplasia. In addition, glutamic acid activates the process of oxidative deamination, as a result of which amino acids are oxidized to keto acids, thereby removing building material for the synthesis of tissue-specific proteins.

Pumpkin seeds contain cucurbitin, phytosterols in free and bound form, tocopherols, as well as minerals, primarily selenium. Solidago (goldenrod) increases the filtration capacity of the kidneys and thereby counteracts the formation of residual urine in stage II prostate adenoma. An increase in muscle tone of the bladder leads to a decrease in the severity of symptoms of urinary disorders, especially dysuria, and to a decrease in the amount of residual urine. Solidago has anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and diuretic effects. Populus tremula (aspen) contains many phenolic glycosides (salicin, populin and salipopulin). Salicin is oxidized in the human body and turns into salicylic acid, which has a pronounced disinfecting effect in urethrocystitis. Phenolic glycosides, which have an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect, reduce the severity of pain in the prostate gland and the sensitivity of the bladder.

Indications

Urination disorders with benign prostatic hyperplasia (adenoma) of the i-II stage: difficulty urinating, frequent urination, including at night, a feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder (the presence of residual urine), irresistible urination.

Acute and chronic prostatitis (as part of complex therapy).

Application

Adults take 2–4 tablets 3 times a day.

The tablets should be crushed and swallowed with a small amount of liquid.

The duration of use is determined by the doctor depending on the nature and course of the disease.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, salicylates, plants of the family Asteraceae.

Diseases in which it is necessary to limit fluid intake, for example, serious diseases of the heart, kidneys.

Side effects

The drug contains lactose and sucrose. patients with rare hereditary forms of galactose or sucrose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, sucrose-isomaltase deficiency should not use the drug.
