Pharmacological properties

Herbion plantain syrup contains an extract of a mixture of plantain lanceolate leaves, mallow flowers and ascorbic acid.

It is assumed that the gluten of the leaves of the plantain of the lanceolate and the flowers of the common mallow and the iridoid glycosides (aucubin) of the leaves of the plantain of the lanceolate play an important role in the action of the drug. Since Herbion plantain syrup contains gluten-free extracts, it acts as a mucous agent with a dry irritating cough that accompanies inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. The adhesive forms a thin protective layer on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and throat and mechanically protects the mucous membranes from irritants that cause a cough reflex. Thus, it weakens cough caused by irritation of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract during inflammatory processes that have arisen due to various environmental irritants.

Ascorbic acid is involved in many metabolic processes in the body, it stimulates the bodys immune response and promotes cell regeneration.

Gluten polysaccharides of both drugs are not absorbed or converted, but act locally on the mucous membrane (as a protective layer).

Absorption of ascorbic acid begins through the mucous membranes of the oral cavity, continues in the duodenum and small intestine. It is distributed to all tissues and cells. In the human body, ascorbic acid is reversibly oxidized to oxalic and ascorbate-2-sulfate, which are excreted in the urine. Excess ascorbic acid is excreted unchanged in the urine.

Indications

Dry cough with infectious and inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract; smokers dry cough.

Application

In children aged 2 years – 7 years - 1 scoop of the drug herbion syrup plantain 3 times a day; 7-14 years - 1-2 measured spoons of syrup 3 times a day; in adults and children over the age of 14 years - 2 scoops of syrup 3-5 times a day.

Patients should not eat and drink immediately after taking the drug, since food and drinks can accelerate the elimination of the drug from the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat.

If symptoms persist after 1 week of use, consult your doctor.

Shake the bottle well before use.

During the use of syrup, it is recommended to consume a large amount of tea or another warm drink.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to active substances or any inactive ingredient that is part of the drug, gastritis, gastric ulcer.

The drug contains sucrose, so it can not be used in patients with diabetes mellitus. if shortness of breath, fever, or purulent sputum occurs, consult your doctor.

Special information on some excipients. The product contains sucrose. Therefore, patients with rare hereditary diseases of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, or sucrose-isomaltase deficiency should not take this drug.

Methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) may cause an allergic reaction (possibly delayed).

Use during pregnancy and lactation. Syrup should not be used during pregnancy and lactation due to insufficient data on its safety.
