Piperazine adipate

Pharmacological properties

Piperazine (diethylenediamine) adipate is an anthelmintic. It especially affects immature and sexually mature individuals of helminths of both sexes (roundworms and pinworms), causing muscle paralysis of these nematodes.

Quickly absorbed by ingestion; excreted mainly in urine. The degree of deworming when using the drug is 90–95%, and with repeated use it reaches 100%. Due to the fact that piperazine adipate does not destroy roundworm, there is no danger of absorption of biological toxic products of their decay. The drug is low toxic.

Indications

Infestation with roundworms (ascariasis) and pinworms (enterobiosis).

Application

Inside, with ascariasis, it is prescribed in the following doses at a single dose: for children under the age of 1 year - 0.2 g (0.4 g / day); from 2 to 3 years - 0.3 g each (0.6 g / day); from 4 to 5 years - 0.5 g (1 g / day); from 6 to 8 years - 0.75 g (1.5 g / day); from 9 to 12 years - 1 g (2 g / day); from 13 to 15 years - 1.5 g each (3 g / day). in the treatment of ascariasis, the drug can be prescribed 2 times a day 1 hour before or 30-60 minutes after eating for 2 consecutive days. according to another scheme of piperazine, adipate is prescribed for 1 day: depending on age, it is taken once at a dose of 0.4 g to 4 g or 2 times a day at a dose of 0.2 g to 2 g.

For the treatment of enterobiasis, it is prescribed in the same doses as with ascariasis. The drug is taken 5 days in a row with 7 - day intervals between courses. Conduct 1-3 courses of therapy. To remove pinworms from the rectum, an enema of 1-3 glasses of water is added between the courses of treatment at night with 1 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate added to 1 cup.

Piperazine adipate for these helminthiases in adults is used according to the same schemes as in children. Doses for adults are: single - 1.5–2 g, daily - 3-4 g.

Contraindications

Organic changes of central nervous system, jade.

Side effects

In some cases (especially in cases of impaired renal excretory function), muscle weakness, tremors, euphoria, hallucinations, blurred vision, impaired coordination of movements, diarrhea, and spastic abdominal pain can develop.

special instructions

Conducting deworming does not require a special diet or preparation. A laxative is prescribed only with a tendency to constipation. during the treatment of enterobiasis, a strict hygienic regimen is observed. treatment can be done on an outpatient basis.

Interactions

With the combination of piperazine adipate with chlorpromazine, extrapyramidal disorders may intensify.

Overdose

The stomach is washed with a suspension of activated carbon or other enterosorbents, saline laxatives, oxygen therapy, and infusion therapy are prescribed. with neurological symptoms, thiamine hydrochloride is administered.
