Pharmacological properties

Benzalkonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium, which has spermicidal and antiseptic properties. its contraceptive effect is associated with the ability to destroy sperm membranes. upon contact of the active substance of pharmatex with sperm cells, their immediate immobilization occurs due to a significant violation of the surface tension of the sperm membrane, loss of flagellum, lysis of the membrane of the sperm head with its destruction and further - separation of the head. enhancing the contraceptive effect is achieved by coagulation and thickening of the cervical mucus with the pharmatex, thus creating an additional barrier for the ejaculate to enter the uterine cavity.

The drug also has an antiseptic and antimicrobial effect, reduces the risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections, but does not completely exclude it.

Does not affect libido and fertility.

Contraceptive effectiveness is measured by the Pearl Index and it is clinically proven that it is 1. For Pharmatex, that is, with the correct application and compliance with all requirements, the frequency of unwanted pregnancies is about 1% per year.

After stopping the use of the drug, the possibility of conception is restored.

According to the results of many studies, it was found that the drug does not penetrate into blood plasma and breast milk (when used in recommended doses) due to the lack of absorption of benzalkonium chloride by the vaginal mucosa. This indicates that the effect of the drug is exclusively local.

Indications

The use of Pharmatex is advisable:

• if there are temporary or permanent contraindications for oral contraception or intrauterine systems, for example, after childbirth, during lactation, after termination of pregnancy and during menopause;

• when using oral contraception, if a woman forgot or was late to take the pill (in this case, you must additionally use Pharmatex on any day of the cycle);
• as an adjunct in barrier contraception (vaginal diaphragm) or the presence of an intrauterine system, especially with the simultaneous use of certain drugs (e.g. NSAIDs).

Application

Cream. Before applying the cream, install the dosing applicator on the end of the tube. Fill it completely (to the annular mark) so that no air bubbles form. disconnect the tube from the applicator and inject the cream as deep as possible into the vagina, slowly pressing the piston. the protective effect of the cream begins immediately and lasts 10 hours, protecting the woman for one sexual intercourse. in case of repeated sexual intercourse, it is necessary to introduce a new dose of pharmatex cream.

The number of doses that can be used throughout the day is not limited.

Suppositories. Release the suppository from its protective packaging. In the prone position, enter it as deep as possible into the vagina. The suppository dissolves 5 minutes after administration and acts for 4 hours, the contraceptive effect is maintained for one sexual intercourse. In case of repeated sexual intercourse, it is necessary to introduce a new suppository Pharmatex.

Application Features:

It should be borne in mind that Pharmatex suppositories have a moderate moisturizing effect.

Tablets.The Pharmatex vaginal tablet should be moistened well with water for quick dissolution. In the prone position, inject the moistened tablet as deep as possible into the vagina. The action of the drug begins 10 minutes after administration and lasts at least 3 hours. In case of repeated sexual intercourse, it is necessary to introduce the next tablet (regardless of the time elapsed since the previous administration of the drug).

Application Features:

1. Lie on your back.

2. Insert the tablet soaked in water as deep as possible into the vagina.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity (allergic reactions or irritating effects) to the components of the drug, vaginitis, ulcers and irritation of the vaginal mucosa and cervix. the impossibility of the correct use of vaginal tablets by persons with mental disorders and those who do not allow any interventions on the genitals, or those who are not able to understand and accept this type of contraception.

Side effects

During the use of pharmatex, according to the indications, the risk of side effects is minimal, but in patients with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, allergic reactions, irritation, tingling, sensation of heat at the injection site, as well as contact dermatitis, itching and burning in the vagina and / or partners penis, painful urination. in case of their occurrence, it is necessary to stop the use of pharmatex.

special instructions

The effectiveness of contraception depends on the proper use of the drug. after intercourse and for 2 hours before and 2 hours after intercourse, an external toilet is allowed using clean water or a product that does not contain soap and is compatible with local pharmacatex contraceptives (for example, foamy means). douching, as well as washing in a bath or in a pond, is possible no earlier than 2 hours after sexual intercourse in order to prevent washing out of the drug with water.

For diseases of the vagina, Pharmatex should be temporarily discontinued until the end of treatment with vaginal drugs.

Use during pregnancy and lactation. Since the drug is a contraceptive, during pregnancy its use is impractical. When pregnancy occurs against the background of contraception of benzalkonium chloride, no effects on the course of pregnancy have been identified.

The drug does not penetrate into breast milk and can be used during lactation.

Children. Pharmatex is not prescribed for children.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and other mechanisms. No influence on the ability to drive vehicles or work with other mechanisms was noted.

Interactions

The simultaneous use of the drug pharmatex with other intravaginal agents is not recommended: any other drugs introduced into the vagina can reduce the contraceptive effect of pharmatex.

Benzalkonium chloride is destroyed by soap, so Pharmatex is incompatible with soap, even in minimal quantities.

Overdose

No cases of overdose have been identified.
