Octenisept® [Octenidine, Phenoxyethanol]

Pharmacological properties

Octenisept has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial, fungicidal and virucidal effects due to the hydrophobic interaction of octenidine dihydrochloride and phenoxyethanol with cytoplasmic membranes of pathogenic microorganisms. the spectrum of antimicrobial activity covers spore-forming and asporogenic microflora, gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (aerobic and anaerobic), fungi, viruses, mycoplasmas, ureaplasmas. there is no resistance with short-term or long-term use of octenisept. the drug does not have a toxic effect and is not absorbed through the mucous membrane, skin and wound surfaces. destroys microorganisms without damaging tissue cells. the use of the drug promotes the healing of wounds, burns due to immunomodulatory effects. octenidine dihydrochloride is not adsorbed by the skin or mucous membranes. phenoxyethanol is adsorbed in small amounts and excreted by the kidneys in the form of phenoxyacetic acid.

Indications

Antiseptic treatment of mucous membranes and adjacent tissues, skin. treatment of wound surfaces (including umbilical wounds of newborns, purulent wounds in surgical and obstetric practice), pressure sores, ulcers (including gangrenous), treatment of the surgical field before, during and after surgical, diagnostic and other manipulations; with injuries (including fractures), burns (deep and superficial); treatment of abrasions, cracks (for example, breast nipples during breastfeeding), postoperative sutures; treatment and prevention of genital, urinary tract inflammation (including sexually transmitted diseases); prevention and treatment of infections of the oral cavity, nasopharynx, eyes; antiseptic lavage of cavities (including maxillary, frontal sinuses, abdominal cavity); washing the body of patients with multiresistant Staphylococcus aureus. hygienic and surgical treatment of staff hands; prevention of nosocomial and occupational infections with HIV and hepatitis when contagious material gets on the mucous membranes (including the eye) and skin.

Application

Before using the drug, it is recommended to clean the areas of skin, mucous membrane to be treated. an antiseptic is evenly applied to the skin and mucous membrane, to wound surfaces - using a swab moistened with a sufficient amount of solution, or irrigated with a spray. the surface should be completely moistened. after processing before applying dressings, stickers, it is necessary to wait until the treated surface has dried.

When treating the body before aseptic surgery, the incision site should be treated first, and then the surrounding areas of the skin. In septic surgery, treatment begins with the periphery. Antiseptic treatment of the surgical field should be performed at least twice.

In order to treat wounds (including the umbilical wound of newborns), burns, bedsores, Octenisept is used undiluted or diluted. Processing is carried out using a swab soaked in a solution, irrigation from a spray bottle or applying gauze dressings soaked with Octenisept. The following procedures can be carried out in 1-2 minutes.

For the purpose of prevention and local treatment of inflammatory processes for rinsing the oral cavity, nasopharynx, 20 ml of Octenisept should be diluted with water.

For washing the genitals to prevent inflammatory processes (including infections of various origins), Octenisept is diluted with water.

In complex treatment for inflammatory processes (including infectious diseases) of the genital organs, the drug is used undiluted or, if necessary, diluted with water.

For the prevention and treatment of fungal diseases of the skin of the legs and feet, the preparation of the indicated areas is treated with the drug 2 times a day (morning and evening) by spraying. The treated skin area must be dry.

The frequency of use of Octenisept is 2-3 times a day, if necessary, up to 6 times a day. Dilution of the drug from 1: 1 to 1:10 does not affect the effectiveness.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug. Do not use in the area of ​​the eardrum and for instillation in the bladder.

Side effects

Possible short-term slight burning sensation per month
