Pharmacological properties
The drug has antimicrobial activity in a relatively wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms and fungi. Its antibacterial and antifungal spectrum of action covers most microorganisms that cause urinary tract infections.
After oral administration, 5-NOK is well absorbed in the digestive tract. It is excreted mainly in urine (in the form of glucuronide) and in a small amount with bile.
Indications
Acute, chronic and recurring urinary tract infections (especially in elderly people with impaired urokinetics) caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms and nitroxoline-sensitive fungi. prevention of recurrence of urinary tract infections, especially in children.
Application
Tablets are recommended to be taken during or after a meal.
Adults: 400-800 mg / day, divided into 4 doses. The average daily dose is 400 mg (100 mg 4 times a day). In severe cases, the daily dose is increased to 800 mg (200 mg 4 times a day).
Children aged 1 year to 14 years: the usual average daily dose is 200-400 mg (50-100 mg 4 times a day).
Children aged 2 to 12 months: the daily dose is determined at the rate of 25 mg / kg / day, divided into 4 doses.
The drug can be taken within 1 month; in chronic infections, 5-NLC can be prescribed in repeated courses of 2 weeks with 2-week breaks (the course of treatment can last several months).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to nitroxoline or any other component of the drug, quinolines; cataract; severe renal, liver failure.
Side effects
Nausea (can be prevented if you take the drug with food).
Rarely, allergic reactions (skin hyperemia, rash) occurring after discontinuation of treatment. Very rarely - allergic thrombocytopenia. In some cases, changes in the activity of transaminases and the level of uric acid in the blood serum.
During the period of use of the drug, urine staining in an intensely yellow color is observed.
special instructions
With moderate renal failure (creatinine clearance of 20 ml / min), half the usual daily dose should be prescribed. in severe renal failure (creatinine clearance of 20 ml / min), 5-NOK treatment is contraindicated.
With liver failure, half the usual daily dose is prescribed.
The safety of the drug during pregnancy and lactation has not been established; despite the lack of data, it is not recommended to prescribe the drug.
An effect on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms has not been established.
Interactions
5-NOK should not be used simultaneously with preparations containing oxyquinoline or its derivatives.
