Pharmacological properties

Bactialis is a topical antibacterial drug with activity against microorganisms that cause most skin infections, including staphylococcus aureus and its methicillin-resistant strains, as well as other types of staphylococci and streptococci. the drug is also active against gram-negative microorganisms such as e.coli and haemophilus influenzae. Bactialis is a powerful inhibitor of the synthesis of bacterial protein and RNA by inhibiting isoleucil-transfer-RNA synthetase, so the appearance of cross-resistance with other antibiotics is not expected.

Pharmacokinetics After topical application of the Bactialis ointment (mupirocin), the systemic absorption of the drug is minimal, and the absorbed amount is rapidly metabolized to a microbiologically inactive metabolite - monic acid. The penetration of mupirocin deep into the epidermis and dermis increases in damaged areas of the skin and under occlusive dressings.

Indications

Topical treatment of bacterial skin infections (e.g. impetigo, folliculitis, furunculosis).

Application

Adults, children and the elderly. a small amount of ointment should be applied with a thin layer on the affected areas of the skin 2-3 r / day for up to 10 days, depending on the course of the disease.

A bandage can be applied to the skin treated with ointment.

Liver failure. Dose adjustment is not required.

Renal failure. Macrogol absorption is possible through open wounds and damaged skin. Like other macrogol ointments, Bactialis should not be used under conditions of absorption of a large amount of macrogol, especially if there are signs of moderate or severe renal failure.

After applying the drug to the skin, wash your hands thoroughly.

Do not mix the ointment with other drugs, since when diluting the ointment, its antibacterial activity decreases and the stability of the active substance of the ointment may disappear.

Children. It is used to treat children over the age of 2 months.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to mupirocin or to any other component of the drug.

Bactialis in this dosage form is not intended for ophthalmic and intranasal use.

Side effects

Side effects are classified by organs and systems, as well as the frequency of occurrence. the incidence of side effects is defined as follows: very often (≥1 / 10), often (from ≥1 / 100 to 1/10), infrequently (from ≥1 / 1000 to 1/100), rarely (from ≥1 / 10 000 to 1/1000), very rarely (1/10 000, including isolated cases).

On the part of the immune system: very rarely - systemic allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, generalized rash, urticaria, and angioedema.

On the part of the skin and subcutaneous tissues: often - burning sensation at the site of ointment, eczema; infrequently - itching, erythema, pain and dryness of the skin at the site of application of the ointment; skin hypersensitivity reactions: rash, increased exudation, swelling at the site of application of the ointment, contact dermatitis.

From the nervous system: headache, dizziness.

From the digestive system: nausea, abdominal pain, ulcerative stomatitis.

If there are single hypersensitivity reactions or severe local irritations that occur when using the ointment, the therapy should be discontinued, the skin area should be washed with water to remove ointment residues and an alternative drug should be prescribed to treat the lesion.

As in the case of therapy with other antibacterial drugs, long-term use of the ointment can cause excessive growth of insensitive microorganisms, including fungal microflora.

There are reports of cases of pseudomembranous colitis, both lung and life-threatening, when using antibiotics.Therefore, it is important to consider the presence of such a diagnosis in patients who develop diarrhea during or after the use of antibiotics, although it is less likely with topical use of mupirocin. In the presence of prolonged or profuse diarrhea or abdominal pain, treatment should be stopped immediately and a diagnosis should be made.

Renal failure. In elderly people, there are no restrictions on the use of the drug, unless during therapy there are conditions for the absorption of the macrogol, which is part of the Bactialis ointment, and signs of moderate or severe renal failure.

Bactialis ointment should not be used:

• for the treatment of eye diseases;
• intranasally;
• in the field of drainage.

Avoid contact with ointment in the eyes. If this happens, the eyes should be thoroughly washed with water until the remnants of the ointment are completely removed.

A macrogol can be absorbed through the surface of a wound or other types of skin lesions and excreted by the kidneys. Like other macrogol-based ointments, Bactialis should not be used in conditions of increased absorption of the macrogol, especially with moderate and severe renal failure.

Use during pregnancy or lactation.

Fertility. There are no data on the effects of the ointment on fertility in humans. Animal studies have shown no evidence of effects on fertility.

Pregnancy. In reproductive studies of animals, mupirocin showed no signs of harmful effects on the fetus. There are no sufficient clinical data on the use of the ointment during pregnancy, the ointment should be used during this period only in cases where the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus.

Lactation. Data on the use of ointment during breastfeeding is not enough. If necessary, it is possible to treat with ointment cracks in the nipples, but they should be thoroughly rinsed before feeding the baby.

Overdose

The toxicity of bactialis ointment is extremely low. if the ointment is accidentally swallowed, symptomatic therapy is necessary.

In case of accidental ingestion of a large volume of ointment, careful monitoring of renal function in patients with renal failure is necessary, given the possible side effects of macrogol.
