Pharmacological properties

the active ingredient is psyllium seed husk, which consists of the epidermis and adjacent destroyed layers of dried mature seeds of plantago ovata forssk. (plantago ispaghula roxb.). The husks of plantain seeds are especially rich in dietary fiber and plant mucus; their mucus content is much higher than that of other species of the plantago genus.

The active substance of the drug absorbs an amount of water approximately 40 times its own mass. It consists of 85% water-soluble fibers and is partially fermentable (in vitro 72% is an unfermentable residue) and acts by hydration of feces.

Intestinal motility and transit rate may vary due to husk of seeds, causing mechanical expansion of the intestinal wall. This is due to an increase in intestinal volume and a decrease in the viscosity of the luminescent content due to water absorption.

When taking the drug with a large amount of liquid, the husk of the seeds increases the volume of intestinal contents due to the high volume-forming ability of the husk and, as a result, causes an irritating stretch that causes defecation. At the same time, the swollen mass of the mucous substance forms a lubricating layer, which facilitates the passage of intestinal contents. The drug restores the normal passage of intestinal contents.

The beginning of the action. Psyllium husk usually acts as a laxative for 12-24 hours after a single dose. Sometimes the maximum effect is achieved only after 2-3 days.

Indications

  • Chronic constipation diseases in which a soft, facilitated bowel movement, such as an anal fissure, hemorrhoids, after surgery in the rectal region is desired; irritable bowel syndrome.

Application

Unless otherwise specified, the following recommendations for use should be followed, otherwise mucofalk orange will not have a therapeutic effect!

In case of chronic constipation and diseases, in which easier bowel movements are desirable, adults and children over 12 years of age use inside one sachet (5 g) of the drug Mukofalk Orange 2-3 times a day after stirring in a sufficient amount of liquid (minimum - 150 ml for one bag).

If the drug is prescribed as an adjuvant for diarrhea or irritable bowel syndrome or hypercholesterolemia, apply one sachet (5 g), dissolved in a sufficient amount of liquid (at least 150 ml per sachet), 2-6 times a day.

If the patient has prolonged constipation and irregular stools that occur more than 3 days, or diarrhea lasting more than 2 days and accompanied by an admixture of blood or an increase in body temperature, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

Recommendations for use:

1. Never use this drug in a dry form, as it may be difficult to swallow.

2. Pour the granules from the bag into an empty glass.

3. Slowly fill the glass with cold water (at least 150 ml).

4. Stir with a spoon and, making sure that there are no lumps left, drink immediately. Do not take while lying down or just before bedtime!

5. Then drink another glass of water.

The effect of the use of the drug Mukofalk Orange, as a rule, is observed 12-24 hours after administration.

Mukofalk Orange should be taken during the day at least half an hour before or after taking other medicines.

If the patient forgot to take the drug, it is necessary to continue treatment in accordance with the dosage recommendations, but not to increase the dose.

Before interrupting or discontinuing treatment, it is advisable to consult a doctor.

Contraindications

  • A known hypersensitivity reaction to ispaghula (plantago, psyllium), as well as hypersensitivity to one of the components of the drug; any sudden change in bowel function lasting more than 2 weeks; taking a laxative in the absence of bowel movement; rectal bleeding of unknown etiology; difficulty swallowing or other problems associated with the throat or swallowing; stenosis of the esophagus, cardiac opening of the esophagus or other gastrointestinal tract; risk of development or obstruction (ileus), or megacolon syndrome, intestinal paralysis.

Side effects

Flatulence and a feeling of fullness in the abdomen are possible, however, in the process of further treatment, these phenomena, as a rule, pass.

Bloating and problems with emptying can be observed, there is also a risk of developing ileus or obstruction of the esophagus, especially when taking an insufficient amount of fluid.

Psyllium husk contains allergens that can lead to hypersensitivity reactions when taken orally or in contact with skin. Symptoms of a hypersensitivity reaction include rhinitis, conjunctivitis, bronchospasm, and in some cases, anaphylactic shock. Skin reactions such as exanthema and pruritus have also been noted. The frequency of these adverse effects is unknown.

special instructions

Mucofalk orange must be taken with a sufficient amount of liquid (at least 150 ml per 1 sachet (5 g)).

If you do not take enough fluid, volume-forming preparations can cause obstruction of the airways and esophagus with suffocation and intestinal obstruction. Symptoms may include chest pain, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing or breathing.

Mucofalk Orange should not be taken lying or immediately before bedtime.

Ingestion of dry granules can cause difficulty in swallowing and suffocation.

With diarrhea, the most important aspect of treatment is the restoration of water-electrolyte balance.

Mucofalk Orange should not be taken by patients with constipation and symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. These symptoms may be signs of existing or possible intestinal obstruction.

Patients taking Mukofalk Orange for the treatment of chronic constipation should stop treatment with the drug and consult a doctor if there is pain in the abdomen or heterogeneity of the consistency of feces.

Weakened patients and the elderly should be monitored during treatment.

Mucofalk Orange contains sucrose, so the drug should not be used in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome or congenital sucrose-isomaltase deficiency.

One dose of Mukofalk Orange (5 g) contains 0.5 g of sucrose (sugar) and 3.07 kcal (12.86 kJ) and is equivalent to 0.064 carbohydrate exchange unit.

One dose of Mukofalk Orange (5 g) contains 3.9 mmol (90 mg) of sodium. This should be considered in patients who follow a low sodium / low salt diet.

For patients who use thyroid hormones at the same time, a dose adjustment may be required.

For patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, it may be necessary to reduce the dose of insulin due to a slowdown in carbohydrate resorption.

Use during pregnancy and lactation. There are no contraindications for the use of Orange Mukofalk during pregnancy and lactation. There is only limited data (less than 300 cases of pregnancy) about the use of the drug during pregnancy. Animal studies are not enough to conclude regarding reproductive toxicity.

The use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation is possible if necessary or in the absence of the effect of changes in the diet. It is necessary to carry out a bowel cleansing procedure before using other laxatives.

Children.Mucofalk Orange is not prescribed for children under the age of 12 years due to insufficient experience in the use of the drug in patients of this age group.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles or working with other mechanisms. No effect on the ability to drive vehicles or mechanisms has been identified.

Interactions

A break of about 30-60 minutes should be taken between taking mucofalk orange and other drugs, since the absorption in the intestines of other drugs that the patient is taking at the same time, such as minerals (e.g. calcium, iron, zinc), vitamins (vitamin b12), cardiac glycosides coumarins and carbamazepine may be slowed down.

Excipients and drugs that inhibit the natural intestinal motility (for example, loperamide, tincture of opium) cannot be used simultaneously with this drug, since intestinal obstruction may develop.

Patients with diabetes with the simultaneous use of Mukofalk Orange may require correction of antidiabetic treatment.

It is possible to reduce the severity of the effect of thyroid hormones, even if they are not taken at the same time.

Overdose

If the drug is taken in a dose higher than recommended, then side effects such as abdominal pain may appear, and flatulence and a feeling of fullness of the intestine may increase. First of all, you need to drink a sufficient amount of liquid. if necessary, the doctor should prescribe symptomatic therapy.

Storage conditions
