Pharmacological properties

Mefenamine sodium salt, which is the main active ingredient in the ointment, is an NSAID. It has an anti-inflammatory effect, prevents the formation and release of inflammatory mediators (serotonin, histamine, prostaglandins, kinins, etc.) from the tissues of mediators, and also inhibits the synthesis of reactive oxygen species (peroxide, hydroxyl radical, etc.). blocking predominantly the isoenzyme cog-2, inhibits the proliferation of granulation tissue in the focus of inflammation, while stimulating regenerative processes. inhibits allergic reactions of immediate and delayed hypersensitivity. It has an analgesic effect for muscle and joint pain, exceeding that of salicylic acid. increases the level of local interferon and other cytokines.

Vinylinum acts bacteriostatically, activates the processes of epithelization, accelerates wound healing.

The combination of these ingredients leads to increased anti-inflammatory, analgesic and wound healing effects of the ointment, prolonging its effect. As a result of applying the ointment, the number of leukocytes in the wound increases and their ability to phagocytosis increases.

Pharmacokinetics The ointment acts mainly locally, is poorly absorbed through the mucous membrane and skin, and has virtually no resorptive effect. The duration of the effect may vary depending on the amount of purulent mass and the nature of the infectious pathogens. on the surface of the skin and mucous membrane, wound surface. On average, the duration of the therapeutic effect lasts for 8–20 hours.

Indications

Ulcerative necrotic and inflammatory diseases of the skin and mucous membrane: exfoliative cheilitis, non-healing cracks, traumatic lip ulcers, acute and chronic ulcerative gingivitis, aphthous stomatitis, nonspecific oral ulcers; carbuncles, boils, granular wounds, trophic ulcers, eczema, traumatic skin wounds, burn injuries, myositis, rheumatoid arthritis.

Application

Mefenate is applied to damaged areas of the skin or mucous membrane with a special glass spatula, spatula or with gauze (cotton) tampons (napkins) 1-3 times a day. apply aseptic dressing to oily damaged skin areas.

The duration of treatment is 7-15 days, but if necessary, it can be continued.

Contraindications

Individual hypersensitivity to the components of the ointment. a history of asthma attacks, urticaria, or acute rhinitis due to the use of acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs.

Side effects

When treating a damaged mucous membrane of the oral cavity, short-term manifestations of irritation at the place of application of the ointment are possible - redness of the area of ​​application, burning sensation with subsequent numbness (slight local analgesic effect), itching, swelling.

For prolonged treatment, use with caution in patients with diseases of the blood, kidneys, as well as with the use of anticoagulants.

Interactions

With simultaneous use with salicylates, pyrazolone derivatives and other anti-inflammatory drugs, therapeutic effects are summarized, and the analgesic effect is enhanced.
