Pharmacological properties

When the drug is absorbed into the vascular bed, mannitol is slightly metabolized in the liver with the formation of glycogen and excreted by the kidneys. since sorbitol is involved in the metabolism of lactate from pyruvate, the absorption of sorbitol causes a slight increase in the level of lactate in the blood plasma, however, this concentration of lactate is not enough for the development of acidosis. in the case of absorption of the drug, its components are rapidly excreted by the kidneys.

Indications

It is used in the form of an irrigation solution for endoscopic operations and diagnostic procedures: transurethral resection of the prostate gland and other transurethral surgical procedures, hysteroscopy, arthroscopy.

Application

When using Turusol, a sterile system is used for single use. the recommended height of the container above the level of the surgical field is not higher than 60 cm, thereby minimizing the possibility of intravascular absorption of the drug. the amount of drug used depends on the volume and duration of surgery.

Side effects

May occur with intravascular absorption of the drug, which is manifested by dry mouth, thirst, hypotension, tachycardia, nausea, and vomiting.

Use the drug with caution in diseases of the cardiovascular system, renal failure.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding. Studies on the use of Turusol during pregnancy and lactation have not been carried out, therefore, it is not recommended to use the drug during this period.

Children. The use of Turusol in children has not been studied, therefore, it is not recommended to use the drug in pediatric practice.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles and working with mechanisms. The drug is used only in a hospital setting.

Overdose

Rapid administration of the drug at a dose of 5000 ml can lead to an increase in the volume of extracellular fluid, hyponatremia and hyperkalemia, as well as to overload of the heart with volume, especially with acute or chronic renal failure, dehydration.

The treatment is symptomatic.
