Pharmacological properties

Magnesium plays a leading role in the processes of neuromuscular excitation, acting as an antagonist of calcium ions.

The total amount of magnesium in an adults body is about 20-30 g. Of this amount, approximately 50% is in the bones, 45% is in the cells and only 5% of the total can be detected in blood plasma.

The intracellular concentration of magnesium varies from 10 to 60 mmol / L, the normal value of the concentration of magnesium in blood plasma is in the range from 0.7 to 1.1 mmol / L. In blood plasma, approximately ⅔ of magnesium ions are in dissolved form and about ¹/₃ - binds to proteins.

Indications

The drug magnesium fortissimum biolectrum is indicated for the treatment and prevention of magnesium deficiency in the body in those cases when it is a cause of disturbances in muscle activity (neuromuscular disorders, cramps), chronic physical and mental fatigue, irritability, myalgia, and intense physical and mental stress during pregnancy.

With hypomagnesemia, which arose as a result of prolonged smoking and alcohol abuse, prolonged use of laxatives, contraceptives, some diuretics or osmotic diuresis in patients with diabetes mellitus with constant hyperglycemia.

Application

Adults and children over the age of 15 are prescribed 1 effervescent tablet 1 time per day.

The tablet must be dissolved in a glass of water, the resulting solution to drink.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

Interactions

Magnesium, which is part of the drug, can interfere with the absorption of iron, sodium fluoride, tetracycline. in such cases, between doses of the magnesium fortissimum biolectrum preparation and iron, sodium fluoride, and tetracycline preparations, it is necessary to observe an interval of 3-4 hours while taking preparations containing aluminum (for example, antacids), aluminum absorption can be increased.

Magnesium preparations enhance the action of antiarrhythmic and antihypertensive drugs, as well as drugs that inhibit the central nervous system; simultaneous administration with amphetamine, ephedrine, quinidine, quinine is not recommended.

Overdose

When taking magnesium salts inside, hypermagnesemia occurs only with renal failure. in such patients, the intake of magnesium salts is contraindicated.

Symptoms of intoxication. High concentrations of magnesium cause relaxation of skeletal muscles (the concentration of magnesium in the blood plasma is 5.5 mmol / l). Higher concentrations of magnesium ions (10–20 mmol / L) prolong the conduction period in the heart, and even higher concentrations lead to cardiac arrest in diastole.
