Pharmacological properties

by forming hydrogen bonds with water molecules, a macrogol holds it in the intestine. water liquefies and increases the contents of the intestine along its entire length. after this, the drug is completely evacuated from the intestine along with its contents.

Pharmacokinetics The drug is not absorbed or metabolized. It is excreted unchanged with feces.

Indications

Bowel cleansing to prepare patients for:

• endoscopic and radiological studies of the intestine;
• intestinal surgery.

Application

For oral use.

The drug is used by adults. Dissolve the contents of each bag in 1 liter of water until the powder is completely dissolved.

The dose should be set at the rate of approximately 1 liter of solution per 15–20 kg of body weight. The dose is 3-4 liters of solution, depending on the patient’s body weight.

The drug can be used in one stage or in two stages, provided that the reconstituted solution is consumed completely (on average 3-4 liters of solution depending on the patient’s body weight).

Preparation scheme

One-stage preparation: 4 liters in the evening before the procedure, a break of 1 hour after the first 2 liters is possible.

Two-stage preparation: 2 liters in the evening and 2 liters in the morning before the procedure, take the last glass 3-4 hours before the procedure, or 3 liters in the evening and 1 liter in the morning before the procedure, take the last glass 3-4 hours before the procedure.

The recommended rate of use of the drug is 1-1.5 liters per 1 hour (250 ml every 10-15 minutes).

The doctor can individually determine the recommended rate of use of the drug in accordance with the clinical condition of the patient and possible concomitant diseases.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. dehydration, severe heart failure, carcinoma or any other serious intestinal disease accompanied by damage to the mucous membrane (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis), intestinal obstruction or the possibility of intestinal obstruction, perforation of the intestine or the threat of its occurrence. toxic megacolon, abdominal pain of unknown origin.

Side effects

From the digestive system: at the beginning of the intake, nausea and vomiting are sometimes noted, flatulence, which then disappear. sometimes there is a feeling of bloating.

On the part of the skin and the immune system: allergic reactions rarely occur, including pruritus, urticaria, rash, Quinckes edema. Isolated cases of anaphylactic shock were recorded.

Elderly people are recommended to use the drug under the supervision of a doctor.

Diagnol does not contain sugar, so it can be prescribed to patients with diabetes mellitus, as well as to persons from whose diet galactose is excluded.

The drug should be used cautiously for patients at risk of impaired water-electrolyte balance (for example, patients with impaired liver and kidney function, with the combined use of diuretics). There have been isolated cases of violations of the water-electrolyte balance in patients at risk.

Persons prone to bedridden aspiration or patients with neurological disorders of the swallowing act are advised to use the drug with caution, under the supervision of a doctor, only in a sitting position and through a nasogastric tube, since such patients may develop aspiration pneumonia.

Patients with heart or kidney failure may develop acute pulmonary edema due to excessive intake of sodium hydroxide.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Pregnancy. The experience of using the drug during pregnancy is insufficient, therefore, it can be used during this period only in case of emergency.

Lactation.Since there is no significant absorption of macrogol 4000, Diagnol can be used during breastfeeding, if, according to the doctor, the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the baby.

Children. Do not use in children.

Interactions

It is not advisable to use other medicinal devices while taking the drug, since they can be removed from the digestive tract, their absorption can be reduced or completely stopped. if, according to the indications, these medications are vital, they should be avoided in the oral form, used in a different dosage form, or an alternative should be found.

Overdose
