Pharmacological properties

Corvalol K - a sedative and antispasmodic, the effect of which as a complex drug is determined by its components.

Ethyl ester of α-bromisovalerianic acid has a reflex soothing and antispasmodic effect, caused mainly by irritation of the receptors of the oral cavity and nasopharynx, a decrease in reflex excitability in the central parts of the nervous system and increased inhibition in the neurons of the cortex and subcortical structures of the brain, as well as a decrease in the activity of central and vasomotor centers direct local antispasmodic effect on vascular smooth muscle.

Validol, or menthol solution in menthol ether of isovalerianic acid, has a sedative as well as moderate coronary expansion effect due to the effect on the sensitive nerve receptors of the oral mucosa.

Peppermint oil contains essential oils, about 50% menthol and 4–9% menthol esters. They are able to irritate the "cold" oral receptors and reflexively expand the vessels of the heart and brain, cause a calming and mild choleretic effect. Peppermint oil has an antiseptic, antispasmodic effect, the ability to eliminate flatulence. Pharmacokinetics When taken under the tongue, absorption of the drug begins already with the mucous membrane of the oral cavity. The action develops after 5 minutes and lasts for 3-6 hours.

Indications

Neurosis with increased irritability; in the treatment of ag and vegetovascular dystonia; mild spasms of the coronary vessels, tachycardia; intestinal cramps.

Application

Capsules of the drug Corvalol K are taken under the tongue. the capsule is kept under the tongue until it is completely dissolved. To accelerate the effect, you can crush the capsule with your teeth.

Take 1 capsule regardless of the meal 2-3 times a day. If necessary (severe tachycardia and spasm of the coronary vessels), a single dose can be increased to 2 capsules.

The duration of the drug is determined by the doctor depending on the clinical effect and tolerability of the drug.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, bromine; severe arterial hypotension; acute myocardial infarction.

Side effects

Corvalolum is generally well tolerated. in some cases, such side effects may occur:

from the nervous system: drowsiness, dizziness, decreased concentration of attention;

from the digestive tract: abdominal discomfort, mild nausea;

from the immune system: allergic reactions, including Quinckes edema, urticaria, rash, itching;

others: short-term arterial hypotension, lacrimation.

Long-term use of drugs containing bromine can lead to bromine poisoning, which is characterized by the following symptoms: depression of the central nervous system, depressive mood, apathy, confusion, ataxia, purpura, rhinitis, conjunctivitis. These phenomena disappear when the dose is reduced or the drug is stopped.

Interactions

Corvalolum enhances the sedative effect of psychotropic drugs, opioid analgesics, alcohol and anesthetics when used simultaneously.

Potentiation of the action of antihypertensive drugs is possible while their use with Corvalol K.

Corvalol K reduces the severity of headache caused by taking nitrates.

Overdose

Long-term use is not recommended in connection with the possible accumulation of bromine in the body and the development of bromine poisoning.

Symptoms: headache, nausea, agitation, impaired heart activity, central nervous system depression, decreased blood pressure.

Treatment: drug withdrawal and symptomatic treatment.
