Pharmacological properties

Contractubex has anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory, softening and smoothing effect on scar tissue.

Onion extract exhibits an anti-inflammatory effect due to inhibition of the release of inflammatory mediators, and also has an anti-allergic effect. It inhibits the growth of fibroblasts of various origins, especially keloid fibroblasts. In addition, the inhibitory effect against mitosis (cell division) and the decrease in the formation of extracellular matrix components from fibroblasts (e.g. proteoglycans) have been proven. Onion extract also has a bactericidal effect. The listed properties of the drug Contractubex stimulate primary healing of wounds and help counteract non-physiological scarring.

Heparin has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antiproliferative properties, increases tissue hydration and has a softening effect on the collagen structure. In the treatment of scars, the anti-inflammatory effect of heparin and its effect on the components of the connective tissue matrix are more important than the known antithrombotic effect.

Allantoin promotes healing and epithelialization of wounds, increases the binding of water to tissues. In addition, its keratolytic effect and ability to improve permeability increase the effectiveness of other components of the drug. Allantoin also has a calming effect, reduces the severity of itching, which often accompanies the scarring process.

The synergistic effect of this combination of active substances is to inhibit the proliferation of fibroblasts and, in particular, pathologically accelerated synthesis of collagen.

Indications

Hypertrophic keloid scars, which limit mobility and spoil the appearance after operations, amputations, burns and other mechanical damage to the skin; contractures such as fingers (Dupuytrens contracture), as well as traumatic tendon contractures and cicatricial strictures (atrophic scars).

Contractubex is used to treat all types of scars after wound healing.

Application

For adults and children over the age of 2 years, apply the required amount of gel several times a day, depending on the size of the scar, and gently rub into the scar until completely absorbed into the skin.

With hard, old scars, you can leave the gel under a bandage overnight.

Depending on the degree and thickness of the scar or contracture, treatment should be continued for several weeks or months. In particular, in the treatment of fresh scars, physical irritants such as very low temperatures, ultraviolet light or intense massage should be avoided.

Children. In children under the age of 1 year, do not use the drug.

Before use in children aged 1 year to 2 years, it is recommended to consult a doctor.

The drug can be used in children aged 2 years.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

Side effects

The frequency of adverse reactions is determined by the following categories: very often (≥1 / 10); often (≥1 / 100, 1/10); infrequently (≥1 / 1000, 1/100); rarely (≥1 / 10,000, 1/1000); very rarely (1/10 000); the frequency is unknown (the frequency cannot be determined from the available data).

The most common adverse reactions were local reactions at the treatment site.

The following side effects were reported in a retrospective cohort pharmacoepidemiological study in 592 patients (2005) in a study of the efficacy and tolerability of Contractractex compared to topical corticoid treatment.

On the part of the skin and subcutaneous tissue: often - itching, erythema, telangiectasia, cicatricial atrophy; infrequently - hyperpigmentation of the skin, atrophy of the skin; the frequency is unknown - urticaria, rash, itching, erythema, skin irritation, papules, skin inflammation, burning on the skin, a feeling of skin tension, contact dermatitis.

The side effects listed below have been reported spontaneously.

Infections and infestations: the frequency is unknown - pustular rashes.

From the immune system: frequency unknown - hypersensitivity (allergic reactions).

From the nervous system: the frequency is unknown - paresthesia.

General and administrative violations: the frequency is unknown - edema, pain at the site of application, peeling at the site of application.

In general, Contractubex is very well tolerated even with prolonged use. Itching, which is usually observed during treatment with the drug, is a manifestation of the expected cicatricial changes and, as a rule, does not require discontinuation of treatment.
