Pharmacological properties

The effects of the drug are due to the synergistic action of its components: anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antiseptic. The main active ingredient of the drug - choline salicylate - has a local anti-inflammatory and mild analgesic effect. the mechanism of analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects of salicylates is associated with inhibition of cog activity, as well as thromboxanesynthetase activity. as a result, the synthesis of prostaglandins, primarily prostaglandins e and f, is suppressed in tissues modified by inflammation, in the gastrointestinal wall and in the kidneys. applied topically, in normal doses does not have a systemic effect. cetalkonium chloride enhances the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. the antiseptics that make up the gel base, methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (in concentrations of 0.15 and 0.08%, respectively) have an antibacterial effect.

Choline salicylate quickly penetrates the mucous membranes (approximately 2 times faster than acetylsalicylic acid). Salicylates easily penetrate most tissues and body fluids. They have a high affinity for blood proteins and tissues, binding (50–80%) to plasma albumin. T_½ salicylates - 2–4 hours. Biotransformation of salicylates occurs in tissues, mainly in the liver, to salicylic acid, from which salicylic uric acid, glucuronides, acetal, and gentisic acid are formed. Biotransformation products are excreted in the urine (salicyl uric acid is 75%). About 10% of salicylates are excreted unchanged in urine. Excretion is slow, about 50% of the dose is excreted in 24 hours.

Indications

• Inflammatory processes of the oral mucosa; erosion and ulcers of the oral mucosa; gingivitis; periodontitis.

Application

Apply a small amount of gel to the affected area and gently rub for 2 minutes. apply 2-3 times a day. a column of gel 1 cm long for adults and 0.5 cm for children is gently rubbed for several minutes into the affected area of ​​the mucous membrane.

In the treatment of periodontal diseases 1-2 times a day, the gel should be placed in the gingival pockets, as well as applied as compresses or gently rubbed into the gums 1-2 times a day. The duration of treatment is determined depending on the clinical situation. Do not rinse your mouth with water or eat food for 30 minutes after applying the gel.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to choline salicylate, to other salicylates, cetalkonium chloride or to any of the components of the drug.

Side effects

At the place of use, a sensation of a short burning sensation may occur, which eventually passes. due to the presence of methylparaben and propylparaben in the composition, allergic reactions are possible.

Use during pregnancy and lactation. During pregnancy should be used with caution, taking into account the risk / benefit. Derivatives of salicylic acid are contraindicated in the III trimester of pregnancy. Substances penetrate into breast milk, so it is not recommended to use them during lactation.

Interactions

With topical administration of cCholisal in accordance with the recommended dose, there is no risk of any interaction. only in the event of a significant overdose and the development of symptoms of the systemic effect of choline salicylate, it should be borne in mind that it interacts synergistically with other anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic drugs.

Overdose

Theoretically impossible. however, if this happens, rinse your mouth with plenty of water and, if necessary, induce vomiting.

With increased sensitivity to salicylates after an overdose of the gel and absorption of a significant amount of salicylate choline, the symptoms of the salicylate systemic effects may appear: increased sweating, tinnitus, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, skin rash (erythema or urticaria). The treatment is symptomatic.
