At the same time, bearberry leaf extract, due to the presence of tannins, reduces the adhesion of bacteria to the host cell.

Pharmacokinetics Bearberry leaf arbutin (a prodrug) is adsorbed in the small intestine and fermented, as well as metabolized in the liver. As a result, hydroquinone conjugates are converted by a second reaction to the form of hydroquinone glucuronide and sulfate. These non-toxic compounds are water soluble and excreted in the urine.

In metabolic studies with the participation of healthy volunteers (Cystinol Akut, coated tablets), 70% of the administered dose of arbutin was excreted in the urine in the form of conjugated hydroquinone for 24 hours.The recovery of the active substance in the form of free hydroquinone was 0.5% of the administered dose of arbutin.

In microbiological studies regarding E. coli, it was found that conjugate fermentation occurs with a wide spectrum of intrabacterial interaction and does not depend on the pH level of urine. In addition, the antiseptic effect increases only in the area where bacteria are present.

Indications

Application

Adults and adolescents over the age of 12 years are prescribed 2 tablets 3 times a day. tablets should be washed down with a large amount of liquid, mainly water, taken after meals.

Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, a medicinal product containing arbutin should be used no more than 1 week and no more than 5 times a year.

Interactions

Cystinol acut coated tablets contain bearberry leaf extract and therefore should not be used with drugs that increase the acidity of urine, since a decrease in the severity of the antibacterial effect of bearberry leaves cannot be ruled out.

Overdose

Symptoms: when using the drug in doses exceeding the recommended, digestive tract disorders such as vomiting, nausea, hematuria and liver damage can occur.
