Pharmacological properties

Ascoril expectorant - a combined preparation with bronchodilating, mucolytic and expectorant action. due to the rational combination of salbutamol, bromhexine hydrochloride, guaifenesin and menthol, it effectively and quickly reduces the severity of functional disorders of the respiratory system.

Salbutamol is a selective β agonist₂-adrenoreceptors, effectively and for a long time expands the bronchi. In therapeutic doses, it does not stimulate cardiac activity.

Bromhexine hydrochloride reduces the viscosity of sputum and promotes its evacuation from the bronchi.

Guaifenesin promotes expectoration and excretion of bronchial secretions. Menthol reduces the severity of irritation and inflammation of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract.

Indications

Diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by the formation of a viscous hard secret - tracheobronchitis, chronic obstructive bronchitis, BA, pulmonary emphysema, pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonia.

Application

Adults and children over 12 years of age - 10 ml (2 teaspoons) of syrup 3 times a day, children aged 6-12 years - 5-10 ml (1-2 teaspoons) of syrup 3 times a day, 2 –6 years - 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of syrup 3 times a day. the duration of treatment is determined individually.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to salbutamol and other sympathomimetics, bromhexine, guaifenesin, menthol or to other components of the drug, age up to 2 years.

Side effects

The most common side effects associated with the use of salbutamol. they do not differ from those for other β2-adrenoreceptor agonists and include muscle tremors (mainly hands), painful muscle spasms. sometimes mild tachycardia, anxiety, headache, and expansion of peripheral vessels may develop. in patients sensitive to the action of β2-adrenergic agonists, against the background of a decrease in hell, a compensatory increase in heart rate may develop. sometimes with the use of an ascorilectectorant, disorders of the digestive tract (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain) may develop, which are associated with the effects of guaifenesin, bromhexine hydrochloride and menthol.

Some patients may develop a transient increase in blood aminotransferase activity caused by bromhexine.

special instructions

With caution is prescribed for hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, diseases of the cardiovascular system (IHD, ar, arrhythmia) and peptic ulcer of the stomach or duodenum.

The safety of the use of the drug during pregnancy or lactation does not have enough documentary evidence, therefore, when prescribing the drug to these categories of patients, the benefits obtained by using the drug and the potential risk to the fetus or infant should be carefully weighed. Breastfeeding while using the drug is recommended to be discontinued.

During the period of taking the drug, it is better to refrain from driving vehicles and other activities that require precise coordination, quick response and concentration.

Interactions

Hypokalemia, which develops as a result of the use of drugs containing salbutamol, may increase with the combined use of diuretics. as a result, the risk of developing arrhythmias increases when cardiac glycosides are used against such a background.

The severity of the effects of salbutamol can be reduced with the simultaneous use of β-adrenoreceptor blockers, especially non-selective (propranolol), and can also increase with the simultaneous use of xanthines (theophylline).

Overdose

With an overdose, excitement, confusion, and respiratory depression may develop. treatment is symptomatic.
